The Principles of Lighting: Basic Lighting - Sunday, June 29

It's time to get serious. You've been practicing with your camera, you've been honing your skills and now you know that in order to take it to the next level, you need to learn about lighting. Whether you want to shoot professional portraits or just great family photos at home, great lighting is essential to creating a great photograph.

During this workshop you will receive a crash course in the basics of lighting. Have you ever wondered what light can do and what you can do with it? We will cover the "Holy Trinity" of lighting, light modifiers and you will learn three fundamental one-light and two-light set ups. In this workshop you will find out about both the science and the art of light.

Light is an art form in and of itself. In order to create the perfect mood for your photo, the right lighting can make or break an image. We've all had times when you capture the perfect moment and can't wait to see how it turns out only to find that there is a yellow tint to the entire image or that someone's face is dark or that it's blurry. Light has everything to do with it. But don't worry! This workshop will help you prevent this from happening.

Basic Lighting kicks off this 3-part series called The Principles of Lighting. The next workshop in this series, Intermediate Lighting will elevate you to an even higher level in your photographic experiences. Finally, in Advanced Lighting, secrets will be revealed that will make your work stand out and have people coming to YOU for lighting and photography advice.

Location: Class will be held at our studio located at 10650 Irma Dr., Suite 29, Northglenn, CO 80233 Tuition: $160 - includes model fees and lunch. Minimum class size is 5 and maximum class size is 10.

Now that you have learned about the Basics of Lighting, what comes next? In the beginning you may have felt left in the dark and overwhelmed, but now you are starting to see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. By the end of this workshop, you will start to see what's on the other side.

During this workshop we will build on the principles you learned in Basic Lighting and expand your knowledge of various lighting techniques. Throughout Intermediate Lighting we will apply the basics of lighting to real-world applications. We will discuss Portrait Lighting, different types of portrait lighting and how to get what you want from the portrait session. We will go over shooting in daylight, various techniques and ways to use daylight to enhance an outdoor shoot. Lastly, we will learn about cross-lighting as well as how to most effectively use gels. The techniques you will learn in this class will enable to you to start taking the steps necessary to become a professional and to give you the photographic tools to kick-start your photography career.

Intermediate Lighting is the second part of The Principles of Lighting series. The final workshop in this series, Advanced Lighting will finally bring you to the other side of the Lighting tunnel, preparing you for your advancement in the world of photography.
